Can I take items from one account and put them in another?

Yes but you need access to 2 computers with GW on them.

I thought I read somewhere that you could run two instances of GW on one computer? Can't remember where it was though. You could only use the items that weren't customized for the original account though. So no armors and no weapons that were customized.

Yes you can all it requires is to have 2 copies of the client on your one computer .Then you rezise your screen so that you can have to two clients running and can see everything.It sort of like using two versions of word opened up which you can do.Running two clients of GW
